Zaheer Khan, the former India fast bowler, made an unexpected choice by including Yash Dayal in his team for the IPL2024 T20 World Cup.
In his squad, Khan decided to have Rishabh Pant as the only wicketkeeper. He also handed an international debut to Yash Dayal, a left-arm seamer, aiming to add a new dimension to the bowling attack. Khan considered Mohammed Shami’s absence due to injury while finalizing his squad.
Explaining his selection, Khan highlighted Dayal’s versatility, stating that he could bowl at various stages of the innings, either upfront or at the death.
Khan also emphasized the importance of having four pace bowlers in the team, prioritizing them over additional wicketkeeping options like Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, or Ishan Kishan. After all,he hinted at the possibility of considering experienced players like Mahendra Singh Dhoni as well.
Furthermore,In his 16-player squad, Khan mentioned the dilemma of choosing between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner, emphasizing the need for flexibility in the batting order.
