Raina: Gill Potential Next India Captain. There are some uncertainties about Rohit Sharma’s future as captain. Rohit himself expressed his desire to help India win the T20 World Cup this year and the World Test Championship next year.
Recently, Rohit lost his captaincy for Mumbai Indians to Hardik Pandya. Hardik, who was previously captain for Gujarat Titans, rejoined Mumbai Indians.
Now, with Hardik back in Mumbai Indians, Shubman Gill took over as captain for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024. However, Gujarat Titans haven’t been doing well in the tournament, losing four out of their first seven games.
Raina believes that after Rohit, Gill could be the next captain for India. “I think he could be the next Indian captain. He has the potential,” Raina said during a discussion.
Gill will be playing later on Sunday as Gujarat Titans face Punjab Kings in IPL 2024. Gill, who is also the youngest captain in IPL 2024, has been performing well this season, being the top run-scorer for Gujarat Titans with 263 runs in seven matches.
Punjab Kings are currently in ninth position in the points table with two wins in seven games, while Gujarat Titans are in eighth position with three wins. In their previous encounter earlier in the season, Punjab Kings won a thrilling match against Gujarat Titans.
