Gaikwad’s Remarkable Journey in IPL 2024
Ruturaj Gaikwad achieves a significant IPL 2024 milestone as he scores 2,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL), becoming the fourth player from his team to reach this milestone.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has hit 2,000 IPL runs, becoming the fourth player from CSK to do so. The 27-year-old reached this milestone during a game against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Gaikwad scored 69 runs off 40 balls, including five boundaries and five sixes, with a strike rate of 172.50. After playing 58 IPL games, he now has 2,021 runs at an average of 39.62 and a strike rate of 134.91. He has scored one century and 16 half-centuries, with his highest score being 101*. Among CSK players, only Faf Du Plessis, MS Dhoni, and Suresh Raina have scored more runs.
He reached 2,000 runs faster than any other Indian, taking just 57 innings, and is the third fastest overall, after Chris Gayle (48 innings) and Shaun Marsh (52 innings).
A Look at His Impactful Batting Career
Gaikwad’s best season was in 2021 with CSK, scoring 635 runs in 16 games, averaging 45.35 and striking at 136.26. He won the Orange Cap for the most runs that season and helped CSK win their fifth IPL title.
This season, he has scored 224 runs in six games, averaging 44.80, with two half-centuries. His top score this season is 69, ranking him seventh in run-scoring.
In the recent match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to field. CSK batted first but early wickets didn’t stop Gaikwad and Shivam Dube from building a 90-run partnership. Gaikwad made 69 runs, and Dube scored an unbeaten 66 from 38 balls. MS Dhoni added a quick 20 runs, including three sixes in a row in the last over, bringing CSK’s total to 206/4.
Hardik Pandya took 2 wickets for 43 runs for Mumbai, while Shreyas Gopal and Gerald Coetzee each took one wicket.
