Mitchell Starc’s performance in IPL 2024, a key player for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), hasn’t been up to par this season. Despite KKR’s record-breaking payment of Rs 24.75 crore to acquire him, Starc has struggled in the first six matches, managing only five wickets with an economy rate of 10.54. Additionally, in four of those six games, Starc has failed to take any wickets.
Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop expressed disappointment with Starc’s performance, especially considering the high price KKR paid for him.

Meanwhile, former New Zealand cricketer Mitchell McClenaghan, who has experience playing in the IPL for Mumbai Indians, believes that Starc is adjusting his bowling style to suit Indian conditions.
“In two consecutive overs, we noticed something about his first ball. He tried to bowl a slower delivery, possibly aiming for a wide. But when you’re under pressure, getting hit for a boundary on the first ball gives the batsman a lot of confidence. It not only affects the bowler’s mindset but also the captain’s. Starc is learning because the IPL is different from international cricket. The grounds are smaller, so even mishits can result in sixes. He’s adapting to a more defensive style of bowling on Indian pitches,” McClenaghan explained.
