“Strike Rate 33.33”: Former Pakistan Cricketer Criticizes Virat Kohli Again

Kohli’s Strike Rate Criticized by Junaid Khan

Junaid Khan criticized Virat Kohli again after he was out for just 3 runs in the IPL 2024 game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians. Kohli’s IPL 2024 strike rate criticized by Junaid Khan, reigniting debate over batting performance in the tournament.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Junaid Khan criticized Indian batter Virat Kohli again after Kohli scored only 3 runs in the IPL 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians on Thursday. There’s been a lot of talk about Kohli’s strike rate recently, and Junaid Khan added to that by tweeting “Strike rate 33.33” after Kohli’s 9-ball-3 performance against Mumbai Indians, where Jasprit Bumrah got him out with an excellent ball.

Before this, Junaid was very critical of Kohli even though Kohli scored an unbeaten 113 against Rajasthan Royals. He tweeted congratulations to Kohli for the “slowest 100 in IPL history,” referring to Kohli’s 72-ball century.

Kohli’s century, scored with 4 sixes and 12 boundaries, tied for the slowest hundred in IPL history along with Manish Pandey.

Junaid’s Comments Spark Debate over IPL Batting Performance

List of slowest hundreds in IPL:

1. Virat Kohli: 67 balls vs Rajasthan Royals, 2024

2. Manish Pandey: 67 balls vs Deccan Chargers, 2009

3. Sachin Tendulkar: 66 balls vs Kochi Tuskers Kerala, 2011

4. David Warner: 66 balls vs KKR, 2010

5. Jos Buttler: 66 balls vs MI, 2022

Despite the criticism, many experts defend Kohli. West Indies legend Brian Lara insisted that Kohli should definitely be in the T20 World Cup 2024 team. He explained that the strike rate can depend on the batting position. For an opener, a strike rate of 130-140 is acceptable, but middle-order batters might need to hit faster.

Lara mentioned during a discussion on Star Sports that as an opener, Kohli can start at a strike rate of 130 and increase it during his innings, which is fine. He also said that India’s top three for the World Cup should be Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill, emphasizing that for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, success should come from the whole team, not just one player.
