Why RCB Didn’t Keep Yuzvendra Chahal: Mike Hesson Explains

Mike Hesson, the former Director of Cricket for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), recently talked about why they didn’t retain Yuzvendra Chahal for the 2022 IPL season auction. He explained that by retaining only three players, they could have extra money to spend. This extra cash would help them buy back both Chahal and Harshal Patel. Unfortunately, during the auction, Chahal’s name came up late, and by then, RCB had already bid for Wanindu Hasaranga, a Sri Lankan spinner. Hesson expressed his frustration, saying they missed out on Chahal because of the auction order.Chahal’s Missed Retention in IPL2024.

Chahal has been a remarkable bowler, taking 200 wickets in 153 IPL matches. He achieved this milestone while playing for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians. This significant moment in his career occurred during the eighth over of the match when he dismissed Mohammed Nabi.

Chahal previously played for Mumbai Indians and RCB before joining Rajasthan Royals in 2022. He didn’t have much success with MI but was a key player for RCB, taking 139 wickets in 113 matches. Now, with RR, he has taken 61 wickets in 39 matches.

In the recent match between RR and MI, RR’s Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant century, guiding his team to victory. Sandeep Sharma was exceptional with the ball for RR, taking five wickets, while Chahal also contributed with a wicket, becoming the first player to reach 200 IPL wickets.

With this win, RR sits at the top of the points table, while MI struggles at the seventh spot.
