SRH Secures Playoff Spot
SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) qualified for the Indian Premier League IPL2024 playoffs on Thursday after their match against Gujarat Titans (GT) was washed out due to rain in Hyderabad. This match, without a single ball bowled, secured SRH’s place in the playoffs, making them the third team to qualify, following Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Impact of the Washout
Firstly,the abandoned match gave SRH one point, bringing their total to 15 points with one game remaining. Their final league match is against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 19. PBKS have already been eliminated from the playoff race.
For GT, last year’s runners-up and the 2022 champions, the washout was a blow. They were already struggling after another rain-affected match and ended the season with 12 points from 14 matches, falling short of the playoff qualification.

This was the second match of the IPL2024 season to be called off due to rain and wet outfield conditions.
The toss was scheduled for 7 PM, but persistent rain and a wet outfield delayed proceedings. The rain intensified, and despite efforts to prepare the field, conditions did not improve. The cut-off time for a five-over game was 10:56 PM. With the rain showing no signs of stopping, officials decided to abandon the match.

Lastly,three teams remain in the hunt for the final playoff spot: Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
