Lucknow Super Giants wore green and maroon jerseys instead of their usual dark blue when they played against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 28th match of IPL 2024. They did this to honor the city of Kolkata and its famous football club, Mohun Bagan Super Giant. The RPSG group, which owns the Lucknow team, also owns the Mohun Bagan club in the Indian Super League.
During the match, KKR’s captain Shreyas Iyer chose to bowl first. “It feels nostalgic. The crowd is electrifying, and it’s great to be back in Kolkata,” said Shreyas at the toss. He mentioned that they had to adapt to whatever the pitch conditions were on that day.
Honoring Kolkata’s Heritage
LSG’s captain KL Rahul said if he had won the toss, he would have chosen to bowl first because the pitch looked good. “It was important to rest well since we had little time between games. We made a few changes for this match,” Rahul added.
